Early morning or weekdays for the quietest experience; park hours run dawn to dusk
Ideal For
Pro Tip
Take the bench by the pond — it’s the best seat for watching ducks and the resident beaver at work
This historic trail was originally a First Nations path and later used as overland entry route for those avoiding the mining licensing costs and miners head tax during the Gold Rush. It then grew to be the main road to the US border for wagons in the late 1800’s. Now, you’d never guess it was so widely used, as it’s currently a quiet walk through a wooded area that leads to the Nicomekl River.
Editorial Review
Semiahmoo Trail Park is the kind of small, stubborn slice of green that does exactly what bigger attractions can’t: it slows you down. A narrow stand of trees, a duck-lined pond and a single bench where you can sit and listen to water move through Anderson Creek — that’s the draw. There’s a beaver that seems to have claimed the place, and watching it work is as local as a morning coffee. Walkers and cyclists passing along the historic Semiahmoo Trail duck in for a quiet pause; families bring small kids to feed the ducks; anyone who lives nearby treats it like backyard nature. It isn’t manicured or monetized — it’s protected city heritage, one of the first sites the municipality shielded for its natural and cultural value. Come at dawn or on a weekday and you’ll have the place to yourself; on a sunny afternoon you’ll share soft conversation from the bench. Not a destination for spectacle, but a perfect interlude on a South Surrey day when you need trees, water and a little calm.
