Pro Tip
Go upstairs to the Surrey history gallery and look for the breastfeeding nook beside the kids area for a quiet break.
Located on the Heritage Campus in Cloverdale, the Museum of Surrey celebrates Surrey's past, present and future through innovative, dynamic and delightful learning, storytelling, and creating shared experiences. Exhibits are offered throughout the year that focus on the people of Surrey, community partners, current affairs and fun, interactive learning. Exhibitions and programs always relate to the residents of Surrey with subject matter that includes Indigenous learning, immigration, Surrey’s diverse communities, and sustainability. The museum includes a main building with the feature gallery, TD Explore Zone, Indigenous Hall, Textile Centre and Surrey Stories Gallery. Additionally, there are three heritage buildings located on the east side of the museum – 1881 Town Hall, Anniedale School (1891) and the 1872 Anderson Cabin. Admission is always free.
Editorial Review
Walk into the Museum of Surrey and you step into a neighbourhood living room: bright, bustling and unapologetically local. Kids colonize the interactive play area and a LEGO feature draws everyone into tiny, obsessive detail; upstairs the Surrey Stories gallery and a compact Indigenous Hall lay out the city’s tangled past with artifacts like an old fire truck and a pioneer-era cabin. Staff circulate like good hosts, guiding school groups, textile enthusiasts and families toward hands-on stations where you can try a loom or pretend to play hockey. The building is humble but intentional: community-curated displays, rotating special exhibitions and practical touches such as a breastfeeding nook keep it human. Locals treat it as an anchor — a place to connect across generations and diasporas — while visitors get a concentrated, candid portrait of suburban Vancouver life. Free entry keeps it accessible; the joy here is in the small discoveries, the tangible connections between history and the diverse people who call Surrey home.
